Additional Information & FAQ’s

Following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as state and local agencies the following measures have been implemented:

Residents

  • Communicating with residents and family regarding COVID-19
  • Multiple daily observations for symptoms consistent with COVID-19
  • Postponing all group and outside activities
  • Providing alternative communication for family and care conferences via Zoom, Facetime or Skype
  • Limiting internal and external appointments to those deemed medically necessary by the primary care physician

 

Visitors & Staff

  • Based on direct guidance from CMS, visitors are not currently permitted except for end-of-life, compassionate care situations.
  • All staff are screened daily upon entry for health and exposure, as well as assessed for fever via no-touch thermometer before their shift begins.
  • All direct care staff will be wearing masks
  • All medically necessary visitors will be screened for health and exposure as well as assessed for fever via no-touch thermometer
  • Facility access has been limited to one entry point that is always locked

 

FAQ

Are visitors allowed?

Visitors are not currently permitted except for end-of-life, compassionate care situations. We encourage family and friends to stay in touch with their loved ones via FaceTime, Skype and Zoom.

Are you accepting personal protective equipment (PPE) donations?

Yes, due to a nationwide supply shortage related to COVID-19, nursing homes like ours are in need of new/unused PPE such as face masks of all kinds, N95 masks, face shields, and disposable isolation gowns. If you are a local business or individual and have access to any of the above, please call us to arrange pick up/drop off.

Can I bring in food and/or drinks for residents?

Due to the risk of infection, outside food and drinks are not currently permitted.

Can I still do my family members laundry?

Carmel Hills is responsible for ensuring clothing is free from infection.  Each time clothing is brought in for a resident, we will wash it first, then deliver it. 

What is Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new respiratory disease spreading globally with instances of COVID-19 throughout the United States. Reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death for confirmed COVID-19 cases. For more information please visit the CDC or CDPH websites.

What is the purpose of the restrictions? 

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), older adults and people who have serious chronic medical conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and lung disease are most at risk for getting very sick from this illness.  COVID-19 infections in skilled nursing facilities can spread quickly, silently and have dire consequences.  

What is the best way to prevent the spread of Coronavirus?

According to the CDC, the best way to prevent illness is to avoid close contact with people who are sick and by taking everyday preventive actions such as washing your hands, avoiding high-touch surfaces in public places, and avoiding touching your face, nose, and eyes. 

Local shelter-in-place and social distancing guidelines are proving successful in mitigating the spread of infection and help limit the exposure to our employees and thus, our residents.
